Comfort Bound Cay

Comfort Bound Cay

a poem by

SketchWriterJess

If people spent time
Doing something constructive, joyful, and satisfying
  Instead of destructive...
 How would the world be?

All destructive behavior
Leads to people, items, and places
Being destroyed…
Nothing better,
Nothing brilliant…
Not even change.

Why do people destroy
In order to gain something they don’t have?

Why not take
The time to build up joy…a thing
Something, that gets better the more it’s done?

These questions
Are solutions to children
And even new adults;

During my toughest school days where
I endured bullying and misunderstood my classmates so many times when they were just joking around I’d come home from school angry, exhausted, and alone.
I’d think of the mistakes I made.
I escaped to my comfort bound sketchbook or notebook.
I’d draw or write my dreams and real life happenings.
Even as a new adult,
I continued to sketch and write despite living with pain in my head and heart.

I think…believe
People are afraid to
Hold on to the best times in
Life for fear of losing
The ability
To get the best times
Back.

I hope that
One day people
From any background,
Will be able
To go to their own
Comfort bound cay…

Any blank or lined journal will do.

Everyday.
Every night.
Getting
To where I
Must go.
Leaving should behind.

How to like yourself, laugh without question.

How to like yourself now

A poem

by SketchWriterJess

Cook for yourself and others. That includes baking.

Helping parents when they need help.

Laugh and not question being happy. In other words, laugh without question.

Watch feel good movies no matter how hoke and silly.

Treat music as a philosophy, not a religion

Let thoughts go in one part of your brain...
and leave quickly out the other.

Hang onto the thoughts you want to hang on to.

Let the people you love so much in real life know how much you care for them.

Let the people you loved so much in fantasy go…in peace.

Be kind to anyone, just because it’s the right thing to do.

Be nice.

Be angry at someone when you need to. But calm and gentle the rest of the time.

Reassure people you’ve got their back.

Say “Hello”.

Say “Good Bye”.

Say “Good Night”.

Say “Good Morning”.

Say “Have a good one.”

Become the person you enjoy talking too.

Become a person who loves to care about other people.

Become a person who loves animals, though, you may eat meat, you would feel better if the animal you are eating has been killed humanely and cooked with respect.

Tell the world how much you love God.

Tell yourself how much you love God.

Tell your family and significant other how much you love God.

Know freedom isn’t free.

Know freedom is necessary for existence.

Know violence is a temporary solution to an underlying problem.

Know extreme anger through words is the same as violence.

Know that people everywhere and every place have problems as you do.

Take or leave criticism. Do not fight criticism, embrace it. Make yourself and your work better.

Take a break from thinking and working and doing.

Take a break from yourself by helping someone else.

Let the world revolve around you for awhile, it’s all right. It’s normal to be the center sometimes.

Allow life to happen when you are frustrated. In other words if you try something and it doesn’t work out, and there is a mistake, sometimes that mistake will lead you somewhere.

Become the person that is helpful and wants love and affection and wants to give it back even more.

Live in a climate you love. If you love Summer, Then go where it is summer year round. This goes for all other weather patterns too. Summer is this author’s favorite.

Help when asked for help.

Give an opinion when asked for an opinion.

Accept opinions with grace, though they may be taken off the beaten path.

Ask for help.

Ask for opinions.

Recover at your own pace, yet make an effort to recover from the pain you have caused yourself and others, and others have caused you a little each day.

Do an activity with passion, that is art, music, writing, cooking, even your job which may not be your favorite passion.

Compliment people just because you care about them.

Make peace and make little wakes by rocking the boat a little.

Don’t lose the playful, mischievous streak from the past, it could help you survive the world we live in today.

Don’t lose hope.

Always be true to yourself.

Be yourself.

Be.

Be Brave. Don't Cave.

Be Brave. Don't Cave

A prose poem by SketchWriterJess

Image of a poem about being brave and not giving in to anger.

Be Brave. Don't Cave...

when people tell me to give up my dream of being creative for love and profit...

when I feel like I can't take another minute of my own self talk...

when I want to go outside and never come back...

but to drive around for hours...

when I am screaming at the television, "Trump...Why....Stop using the tanning bed! Seriously, Trump...stop being disrespectful to other people and yourself."...

when I am listening to MSNBC and all I can think of "Oh no! What's going to happen now. How are the mentally ill going to get the help they need to survive. I myself am receiving the help I need, but what about other mentally ill people out there...

when I hear some doctor who has never had a mental illness in their lives let the names of mental illness meds roll of the tongue like different candies and she tells me, "Sorry, no drinking alcohol". Ok I wished I had listened on that one. I don't do it often now, I'm not even able to finish a beer anymore. I'm thankful for that after what I've been through with other medicines that caused me to drink way too much...

when the doctor tells me my blood sugar is too high and that it needs to be at normal range despite another doctor telling me my blood sugar can be a bit higher then normal because that's what meds do. They make you sane, but they make your blood sugar high if you have a history of diabetes in your family which I have. I try to eat better, I do eat better, I make my own cakes with less fat and less sugar and you know what, they taste great!...

when I hear someone say for the umpteenth time "The world doesn't revolve around you." Well, I got news for "you" too, It doesn't revolve around you either and the fact that you have made it clear transferring the pain of that realization on to me explains exactly what you want in your life, which is to be taken seriously if not even more silly because you, like me, want to be the life of the party.  Own it why don't cha? I have, I've got a blog...

when I remember how people behave around the famous and the not so famous and the inklings of famous and how really we are all just planets and stars brighter and dimmer then others and the Sun is what we make it. The sun is who we believe, what we believe, how we believe, who we listen too. For some God is their sun. For others it can be rock stars or movie stars or artists or authors, or poets, anyone touched by God...or muses perhaps. And then there are people who are artists in what they do, food artists, chefs, cleaners, sweepers, movers, anyone is touched by God everyday in every walk of life if they so choose or not. My point is, everyone, when they feel like they have nothing to offer, only need offer the best they have. Every time, all the time. And the world will be better. There is room for all artists in all states in all circles. There is no reason to denigrate others different from yourself, either low or so high they will burn up due to all the pain and the struggle of keeping up with someone else and the world just in their own space and globally. It's all too much to handle for some. Perhaps maybe even for me...however, I must remind myself...

Be brave. Don't cave...

when one disrespects you personally and when you feel like you need to disrespect someone right back or even first before they get to ya'.

Respect. Honor. Faith.

On it goes.
